The festival’s closing concert opens with the powerful Montagues and Capulets from Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet Romeo and Juliet. The evening continues with Nicky Sohn’s lyrical piano concerto If You Love for Beauty. The first half concludes with Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Oboe Concerto, a work balancing virtuosity and introspection. After the intermission the audience gets to enjoy Samuel Barber’s sorrowful and intensively still Adagio for Strings before the festival comes to an intimate close with Prokofiev’s Visions fugitives.
